My ADHD diagnosis was never part of the plan

I spent the first 40 years of my life feeling like an imposter, too sensitive and lazy. I never “fulfilled” my potential according to my school reports.
Realising I wasn’t what I was told or made to believe was life-changing.
Facing real concerns about my two boys, I sought support and they eventually received an ADHD diagnosis. This motivated me to get to work; but, I inadvertently ended up being diagnosed myself. That was never part of the plan!
All of this has led me to where I am now.
Experience
I have a varied work background and ended up in Education through the non conventional route. This involved working with Families and Teenagers in mainstream schools and alternative provision.
Classroom support and a full time Pastoral welfare and safeguarding officer with strong focus on supporting young people to navigate school life I worked as closely with family members to support their understanding of ADHD in order to foster better relationships.

ADHD Coaching works

So with the label I quickly went on a rollercoaster. First relief, then lots of ahah moments, then anger, sadness and then oh s**t! This is me now…
The diagnosis, in many ways, set me back. I was plunged into overwhelm, unsure of what to do next. The small amount of generic information offered no follow up support other than the option of medication.
How do you continue or contemplate any alternative life knowing that the odds were always stacked against you?
And so I got myself a coach and this is exactly why I am in a great place to say tailored ADHD Coaching works!
More understanding of ADHD is long overdue
Instagram and TikTok will trivialise what can be a debilitating and lonely existence.
The perception of “everyone jumping on the bandwagon” and it being portrayed as the “latest attention-seeking trend” can exacerbate feelings of shame and hesitation. Making it even harder for people to speak up.
This damaging trivialisation and gaslighting needs to stop.
More understanding and embracing for a significant proportion of the population is long overdue.

But for now, let’s start with you.
